The hubs and I made ottomans a few years ago for in front of our couches. I originally upholstered them but have made slipcovers to change their look several times. So I thought would do a little tutorial on my process. I always use curtain panels for the fabric. They tend to be cheaper than buying yard goods and sometimes wider than fabric from the bolt!

For this project I bought the panels at Hobby Lobby on sale for 50%. So I recovered two ottomans for under $40!

The first step is to lay the panel out wrong side out to see if you need to hem any of the sides. I had to hem one of the short and one of long sides so the hem would go to the floor. (I did it this way because the ottomans are slightly different and this way they look like the match😉)

Once you have the sides hemmed you’ll pin the corners together keeping the edges even and the slipcover tight all around.

I find it helpful to mark the spot where the seam needs to be on the corners. I use chalk to do this cause it’s easily removed.

Now it’s time to sew the corner seams. Following the pins and the chalk line.

Once your seams are done you can trim the excess fabric from the corners. I usually leave about an inch of fabric outside the seam.

Now it’s time to turn it right side out and put it on! This is such an easy and inexpensive way to update your ottoman you can even make a new one for each season!
